Mexico City, November 27 (Xinhua) -- The 2019 Latin American Innovation Day was held in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, on the 27th, and people from all walks of life said that 5G technology is conducive to promoting infrastructure construction in Latin America and improving people's living standards.
Edwin Rojas, an official at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), said that 5G will unleash the potential of technology to solve social problems in the 21st century, and the future global digital development will greatly improve people's living standards.
Some participants pointed out that 5G is conducive to promoting healthy competition among Latin American operators and promoting the construction of related infrastructure in the telecommunications field.
Gabriel Contreras, chairman of Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Bureau, said that the development of 5G in Latin America urgently needs to increase investment in infrastructure construction, while also enhancing macroeconomic certainty and promoting the construction of the country's rule of law.
Cesar Funes, Vice President of Huawei's Latin America Carrier Business Dept, said that Latin America's development of 5G can learn from China's experience and develop optical fiber networks as soon as possible.
Covering the opportunities and challenges of 5G technology development in Latin America, the development of the digital economy and the Latin American digital agenda, the Innovation Day was jointly organized by ECLAC, the Latin American Development Bank and Huawei, attracting hundreds of participants from related fields.
